Frequently Asked Questions
Q: There's a stray cat hanging out in my backyard. What should I do?
A: Try to find out if the cat is lost. Check neighborhood for signs and post "found" signs yourself. Alert local animal shelters. In the meantime, you can provide the cat with shelter, food, and daily water. If the cat is friendly, consider fostering him until a permanent caring home can be found. If the cat is feral and not friendly, please try to "Trap-Neuter-Return" (see our TNR page for more info.) and take it to your local vet to get spayed or neutered to help stop the reproduction cycle. Once the feral cat is fixed, kindly consider caring for it with basic needs (cat food, water, shelter) while allowing it to live its life outside. If you are providing food without getting the cat fixed, you are only adding to the overpopulation of feral cats.
Q: I can no longer care for my cat. Can you take him?
A: We are at maximum capacity and are not accepting new cats at this time, but AdoptAPet.com will help you find a new home for your pet by making a listing available through their nationwide adoptable pet database. Make sure you have some good digital photos of your pet that show both his/her looks and personality. We recommend you try to find a new home with family, friends or co-workers first (people you already know best) and then try the Adopt a Pet service if you still need help. We strongly recommend that you charge a reasonable adoption fee instead of giving your pet away free to someone you don't know to better ensure the potential adopter is serious about taking care of your cat.
Q: What type of volunteer work do you need?
A: We can always use and appreciate volunteers. There is a wide range of options from barn and grounds maintenance and repairs, to feeding and fundraising. Please fill out the information on our "Contact Us" page and tell us about yourself and what areas you would like to help with. Even if you do not live in our area, you may still be able to help us from afar with fundraising, newsletters, etc. You can also view our listings on VolunteerMatch.com .
Q: I can't find your mailing address. How can we send you our donations?
A: In order to keep our cat sanctuary location private and secure, we will no longer disclose our street address. This is to prevent people from dumping their unwanted cats or dogs on our property (yes, this has happened a few times!) and since we are currently at full capacity, we're unable to care for additional animals at this time. You can donate via PayPal from a link on our "Donate" page, or you can mail a check to our post office box which can be found on our "Contact Us" page.
If you would like to volunteer at our sanctuary, we will meet up at an agreed upon location and if we're a "good fit", we will then have you sign a standard non-disclosure agreement in which you agree not to disclose the location of our sanctuary to anyone without our prior consent.
If you have any other questions, please contact us and we'll do our best to answer them in a timely manner.
